After spinning Slaughter of the Soul and then Terminal Spirit Disease countless times, I needed to get my hands on more melodeath and, because of that, I did a bit of looking online. Their music was heavy, but also melodic and the thrashy song structures on Slaughter of the Soul gave me something to go off of since I listened to a lot of Slayer at the time. It was chaotic, abrasive, and the vocals were rougher than anything I was used to hearing. Before listening to Slaughter of the Soul, I had a lot of difficulty getting into the harder subgenres of metal because I quite simply didn’t understand the music. Back when I was in high school, I absolutely loved At The Gates.
